September is one of our favourite months for Shimla Manali tours. The monsoon is just ending, and the landscapes are impossibly green and fresh. The mountain air is crystal clear, off season prices are still active, and the crowds of summer are completely gone. In 14 years of running Himachal trips, September consistently delivers some of our best tour experiences. This guide tells you everything you need to know before you book.

The first two weeks see the monsoon clearing, with some lingering showers possible early on. From week three, the sweet spot begins — clear skies, comfortable daytime sightseeing weather, and cool evenings. Temperatures run 12-20°C in Shimla and 8-15°C in Manali. Apple harvest is just beginning in the orchards around Kufri and Narkanda, photography conditions are exceptional, and off-season prices mean you save around 30% compared to peak months.

All Solang Valley activities are open and running, Rohtang Pass is usually still open through September, river rafting in Kullu is excellent with post-monsoon river levels, apple orchard visits are possible around Kufri and Narkanda, and trekking conditions are improving week by week as the trails dry out.

Shimla runs 12-20°C during the day with cooler nights, while Manali sees 8-15°C. Carry a light jacket for evenings and mornings, and a compact rain layer for any early-month showers. By the third week, you can expect reliably clear, comfortable sightseeing weather across the whole trip.
