January Manali is not for everyone. It is for snow lovers. Real ones. Temperature drops to -5°C at night. Solang Valley is buried in snow. The whole valley turns silent and white. Manali in January is the most raw and authentic version of these mountains. In 14 years we have taken hundreds of travelers in January, and every single one says the same thing: 'I had no idea it would be this beautiful.'

January brings the heaviest snowfall of the year, with skiing available at Solang Valley and Manali town itself snow-covered. Tourist numbers are at their lowest, giving you the best photography conditions for snow lovers and a peaceful trip where the mountains feel like they're all to yourself. Prices are the lowest of the entire year, and the contrast of the Vashisht hot springs against the freezing air outside is an experience in itself.

Manali: -5 to 8°C during the day, -8 to -2°C at night. Shimla: -2 to 8°C during the day, -5 to 2°C at night. Solang Valley has heavy snow with skiing available. Rohtang Pass is closed, but the Atal Tunnel to Sissu is open and turns into a genuine winter wonderland.

January Manali is beautiful but cold. Very cold. Pack heavy thermals, woolens, waterproof boots and a heavy jacket. It's not recommended for senior travelers or families with very young children. For everyone else — absolutely do it. The mountains in January are unforgettable.
